Bankley Studios Gallery presents new work by two of Manchester’s best
known artists, Jo Manship & Alan Waters.
Manship and Waters
are based at Cringle Fields Sculpture Park in Levenshulme.
Manship exhibits new sculpture, and painter/sculptor Waters new paintings.
Manship has exhibited widely throughout the UK. Her most recent exhibition
was held at Stockport Art Gallery.
Waters has exhibited sculpture and paintings internationally. His work
can be found in Skulpturenpark Katzkow, Germany, Quiet Waters Sculpture
Park, Annapolis, USA and most recently at Convergence XII, Providence
USA.
Manship’s sculptures incorporate common home/office materials in constructions
which hint at the inherent absurdities of our social conventions - the
etiquette of the changing room in a department store, fresh uses for the
office paper shredder – in tender and thoughtful experiments.
The quotidian theme continues in Waters’ abstract paintings. Spray paint
on blanket fabric utilizes unlikely materials. Waters’ paintings (and
his large steel sculpture) investigate formal and intuitive processes;
choice and chance sit side by side and make for dramatic and seductive
results.
