It's been a busy year for BBC GMR in Levenshulme. In January the radio station set up a temporary studio at Alma Park Primary School for a community project called Voices. As well as recording the stories of the people who live in the area the team recruited volunteers and businesses for a number of makeover and fundraising projects including a new outdoor playground, reconditioned toilets, and nursery equipment.

Levenshulme enjoyed the media spotlight when Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex came to visit the project. Other celebrity guests from the world of showbiz who dropped in to the school were opera singer Russell Watson, actress Sue Johnston, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Northern Ballet Theatre.

BBC GMR continues to work with the A6 Partnerships, First North Western and GMPTE on the Friends of Levenshulme Station Project. The BBC Bus will be parked outside the station on Monday 13 October from 9am-4pm. As well as surfing the internet on the onboard cyber café facilities, and having a look at the live broadcast studio you could win a family ticket for a day trip anywhere in the North West.

During the evening BBC GMR’s “The Parlour Programme” with Alan Keegan, will be broadcast live from The Pack Horse pub in Levenshulme village from 7pm-8pm followed by live entertainment.
