Levenshulme Lake Photograph wins Adult section of LoveLeve Photo comp

Fishing Lake Photo wins Adults Levfest Photo Competition

A photograph of a Fishing Lake in Levenshulme village has won the adults section of this years 2011 Levenshulme Festival Photo of the Year competition, which was organised by LoveLevenshulme.

The photograph was taken by 29 year old Tom Mills from Levenshulme. The keen Amateur photographer is a youth worker who has a keen interest in photography, fishing and outdoor pursuits. Tom's image was taken on a summer evening as he was fishing on the Lake at the end of Sandfold Lane behind the area’s recycling centre.

Helen Power the organiser of the competition said “The image itself is stunning and it is a fantastic reminder that there are plenty of hidden gems in Levy - I didn't even know about this one.”

When asked about how he felt about winning the competition Tom replied “This is the first time I have won a competition of any sort and I am over the moon. I didn't expect to win. I happened to be in the right place at the right time. The sky looked very striking and I took a quick snap during my fishing session. The sky was changing constantly with the sunset and I tried to capture it as it reached a dramatic state.

The lake is close to where I live, in easy walking distance, though very much hidden away. I stumbled across it when I was out for a run one day. It is a hidden gem but it is well known by local children and families.”

The Adult runners up were
2nd - Hena Begum
3rd - Daniel Smith
4th - Farand Henry

The teenage category was won by Aaron O'Connor for his Photograph of a Stain Glass Panel in St Mary of the Angels & St Clares’ Catholic Church in Levenshulme. Helen Power explained her reasons for selecting the picture by saying "Aaron's great use of light really captures the beautiful stained glass in St Mary's (I think it's St Mary's, truth be told I'm not great on my churches so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong).

Lawrence Hennigan the President of the Festival and a lifelong Parishioner at the Church where the photograph was taken said “It’s a fantastic picture of one of the Stain Glass Panels which were imported from Italy when the church was first built. I am delighted that LoveLevenshulme has selected it as the winner of the teenage section. I could see the parish wanting to turn it into a Christmas card.”

The runners up in this section were
2nd - Zainab Saeed
3rd - Thomas Parkin
