Levfest stage Jamboree to celebrate Levenshulme's musical talent
Local musician stages Jamboree to celebrate Levenshulme's musical talent as part of Levenshulme Festival
Lou and the Llamas
Levy Uke Up
Friday 9th November, 8pm
Klondyke Club, Burnage Range, Levenshulme, M19 2HQ
When her song 'Ready for Love' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xvqQdNfs5M was featured in the Levenshulme video entry to the Portas Pilot Fund, local singer, songwriter and ukulady Lou Armer was inspired to put together a band of Levenshulme musicians to play a special version of that song.
Levy Jamboree sees that project coming to fruition, featuring her new band Lou and the Llamas, which is made up entirely of Levenshulme musicians.
The event also features performances from some of Lev's other musical gems, including Paddy Steer, Little Sparrow and Levy Uke Up.
Lou said, "When I first put the call out for Levenshulme musicians, I had no idea where it would lead and I've been truly astounded at what I've found. I'm probably never going to get the chance to take a full band with brass and strings out on the road so I figured I may as well pull out all the stops for this gig, so expect a few surprises!
There are so many amazing musicians here and I feel honoured to be sharing the bill with some of them as part of this celebration for Levenshulme Festival."
Lou Armer: http://www.louarmer.com/
Lou is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who has been playing in bands for over twenty years, including The Country and Eastern Band (Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic folk) and The Blendaholics (hip hop, funk and soul). In October, she is finally releasing her debut album "Ready". She is also the founder of Levy Uke Up.
Lou and the Llamas
Already dubbed as "Levenshulme's own super-group", Lou and the Llamas showcase Lou's songwriting talents and play a unique blend of idiosyncratic jazz, folk and blues. With a line-up that features ukulele, guitar, double bass and drums as well as Lou's spellbinding vocals, for the Jamboree they will also be joined by several guest musicians, all found on her hunt for Levy music makers.
Paddy Steer: http://www.myspace.com/paddysteer
Paddy Steer is a Manchester music legend who should need no introduction. King of the leftfield, he's played with a wide range of music and artists over the years, including his own Homelife and Graham Massey's Toolshed, be it as a bass player, drummer, Hawaiian
slide guitarist or all of these at the same time! Expect synths, electric octave fuzz glockenspiel, electrified drum kit, electric shakers, vocoder, lap steel and bass pedals... Mayhem and calm in an 80/20 ratio.
Little Sparrow: http://www.littlesparrow.org/
Local songbird Little Sparrow AKA Katie Ware plays a mix of acoustic folk with a line-up that includes cello, violin, percussion, guitars and an abundance of harmonies. “She has a singularly beautiful voice, complimented by the delicate vocal and instrumental talents of her fellow musicians. Her growing repertoire of songs, packed with genuine emotion and warmth mark her out as someone very special to listen out for and not under any circumstances to be missed live." - Shay Rowan
